Our Story​

Shea Essence was born from a mother’s love and a journey to find gentle, effective skincare solutions for sensitive, melanin-rich skin. Fourteen years ago, our story began when our son struggled with extremely dry, irritated, and sensitive skin. Nothing seemed to help, not even dermatologist-recommended products. Then, a friend brought raw shea butter from West Africa, and everything changed. His skin calmed, soothed, and transformed.

As he grew older, he became sensitive to the natural aroma of shea butter.

That challenge pushed us into research, formulating, and creating products that not only work beautifully but also smell amazing.

Our first creation was Njangi Lux Body Butter, made with raw shea and calming colloidal oats. Soon after came Muna Radiant, designed to support smoother-looking, nourished skin. With continued learning, we expanded into targeted formulas like Ekong Lumiere, made with ingredients that gently support a brighter, more even-looking appearance.

For years, we shared our handcrafted products privately with friends and family—never imagining it would one day become a full brand. Then, on my husband’s birthday, loved ones sowed seeds of encouragement and support. That moment sparked the official birth of Shea Essence.
